Meet the Simplest Baby Expert Contributors


Dr. Jeremy Shapiro

Raised in West Los Angeles, Dr. Jeremy Shapiro completed his undergraduate education at UC San Diego, earning a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and a B.A. in Political Science.  Dr. Jeremy returned to Los Angeles, where he earned a Master’s degree in Public Health/Epidemiology at UCLA and then completed his medical degree at the Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in 2001.  Following medical school, he returned again to L.A. to complete his internship and residency training in pediatrics at the Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA and has been a full-time pediatrician at Boulevard Pediatrics over the past 16 years.

Along with the importance he places upon cultivating relationships with his patients and their families, Dr. Jeremy has also maintained a public health focus throughout his career.  He previously served as a medical advisor and writer for one of the nation’s largest online health-related social networking sites and has been an active member on the Board of the Medical Staff at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center where he previously held the position of Chief of the Department of Pediatrics and currently serves as the Chief of the Medical Staff.

Dr. Jeremy has shared his journey with his wife, Nicole, and is the proud father of Lauren, Jackson, and Madeline.  Although he no longer coaches his children’s soccer teams, you will often find him on the sidelines at one of their sporting events. 


Natalia C. Llarena, MD, FACOG

Dr. Natalia Llarena is a board-certified OB/GYN and fertility specialist. She received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her medical degree from Northwestern University. She completed both residency in OB/GYN and fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Cleveland Clinic.

She loves helping patients build their families, and specializes in assisted reproduction, ovarian aging, endometriosis, and reproductive surgery. She has authored more than two dozen peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Llarena is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

She is currently a fertility specialist at HRC Fertility in Pasadena, CA, where she lives with her husband, 14-month-old son, and 4-year-old Goldendoodle.


Gabriella Terhes Karlsson

Gabriella Terhes Karlsson is a Los Angeles-based Newborn Care specialist/ Postpartum Doula/sleep trainer. For over a decade she has helped numerous amazing families, making a difference in their lives.

Gabriella works closely with families in the “post-recovery period” (the time after giving birth), which can be the most challenging and demanding time for any new parents.

She provides guidance and support to new parents who suffer from sleepless nights, post-natal depression, and teaches them the basics of how to care for their new baby. As a newborn care specialist, she has made a world of difference for new families by helping them settle into a new routine, reassuring them about uncertainties, and answering any questions they may have about their new bundle of joy.

Gabriella provides daytime consultations to new parents with age-appropriate daytime scheduling, techniques for better sleep, emotional support, sleep conditioning, and sleep train methods.

Gabriella was born in Szeged, Hungary.
